STAMPING

Suitable For:

All ability levels, over one day, or several day workshops.

Groups and individuals, Schools and Colleges.

Age Group:

Any age, especially suitable for Key Stage 1

The Technique:

Stamping is the simplest technique but it can make good results especially when combined with stencils or press-print.

The stamps can be used to make bookmarks, cards and pictures and also large wall hangings when used in combination with other techniques.

Making the individual stamps is fun and popular and can be incorporated into a workshop. They are made by sticking various materials, which I provide, onto a wooden block. Please note this can be a bit fiddly for the youngest children and does require using scissors.

PRESS-PRINT

Suitable For:

All ability levels over one day or several day workshops.

Groups and individuals, Schools and Colleges.

Age Group:

Key Stage 1 upwards

The Technique:

A simple drawing is made on a polystyrene sheet, and then a groove is scoured into the sheet with a biro, the result is inked up and put throughout the press and the scoured line shows up as a white line. Different colours can be tried and it can be combined with stencils and stamping.

They can be made into cards and bookmarks, and combined with stamps and stencils.

I have made several large wall hangings using this technique. First the press prints are printed onto small pieces of material, then they are sewn onto a larger piece of material and combined with stamps and more press prints. The Viking Ship wall-hanging shwon here was done this way, as was the wall-hanging done at Bressingham Primary on the Workshops page.
